She was selected from more than 10,000 actresses to appear in Ang Lee’s Lust, Caution (Winner of the 2007 Golden Lion award) as Wong Chia Chi, co-starring Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, Joan Chen, and Wang Lee-Hom. For the role of Wong Chia Chi, she has won in category Best New Performer of Golden Horse award. She has also been nominated for the Independent Spirit Award.

On 5 October 2007, Tang revealed that her Western name is Rebecca in an interview on KTSF television channel 26 in San Francisco. Her mother is an actress and her father is a painte.

Awards

Tang was nominated for the BAFTA Rising Star Award for her role in Lust, Caution in 2008.

Media Ban

In early March 2008 it was reported that some of Tang Wei’s commercial sponsors had dropped her television and print ads due to her performance in the movie Lust, Caution. This included Tang Wei’s forthcoming TV commercials (for skincare among other things).

She was set to star in Tian Zhuangzhuang’s big budget period film The Warrior and the Wolf, but due to the Chinese media ban she was replaced by actress Maggie Q. In October 2008, the Hong Kong immigration authority approved her application under Quality Migrant Admission Scheme, thus becoming a resident of Hong Kong. This creates more opportunities and broaden her career in the media industry. She also has ambitions for the United States and Hollywood as well.
She is considered one of the four most promising young film actresses in China (四小花旦), along with Xu Jinglei, Zhang Ziyi and Zhou Xun.

After being chosen to work as an extra on a filming set, Zhao developed a passion for acting. While studying at Beijing Film Academy, Zhao participated in various film projects. Zhao’s breakout role as a leading actress was in Princess Pearl, a television series.
In 2001, Chung was approached by Emperor Entertainment Group to form a singing group, Twins, with Charlene Choi, to whom she is not actually related.[3]

Chung made her film debut in U Man which was released in 2002 and has since proven her acting skills in a number of films like Beyond Our Ken which has earned her critical acclaim, being nominated as ‘Best Actress’ in the Gam Zhi Ging Awards. Outdoing herself in every martial arts sequence, Chung has established herself as the up and coming action star.

In the film Beyond Our Ken released in 2004, Chung played as Chan Wai Ching, a spurned girlfriend of the eponymous Ken. The film managed a box office taking of HK$3,886,355 and it has its World Premiere in Tokyo International Film Festival.[5] In January 2006, the film 49 Days exceeded the HK$10 million mark, earning a spot in one of Hong Kong’s best box office films for the year 2006.

Incidents

On August 22, 2006, Easy Finder magazine published a series of photos of Chung inside a dressing room after a Twins concert in Genting Highlands, Malaysia. One of the cover photos showed Chung’s backview as she is fixing her brassiere. A second, smaller cover photo shows an unclad Chung from shoulders down to her bust level.Hong Kong celebrities such as Jackie Chan staged a public protest denouncing the magazine’s irresponsible actions.

The Hong Kong Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority received 2875 complaints regarding the revealing photos and the incident was referred to the Obscene Articles Tribunal for further action. On November 1, 2006, Easy Finder lost its appeal against an obscenity ruling on the published article and pictures. The appeal panel, consisting of one magistrate and four lay members, upheld the judgement, declaring the article “obscene”, and saying it was a “calculated act of selling sexuality which is corrupting and revolting”. Jimmy Lai, founder of Next Media (Easy Finder’s publisher), interviewed on the television show Be My Guest, apologized to Gillian and offered to return all the negatives.

Biography

Cheung was born in Hong Kong to a Chinese father and a half Chinese-half British mother. Her parents divorced when she was just a child after which she was sent to Australia to live with her aunt at the age of fourteen. Cheung has an elder half-sister Dai Pek Chi, two younger brothers and also a younger half-brother from her father’s side.

In 1998, while helping a hair stylist friend at a catwalk show, she was offered to appear in a TV commercial advertising lemon tea. Later, Cheung made her film debut as a young nightclub hostess in Stephen Chow’s The King of Comedy (1999), followed soon after by Fly Me to Polaris (1999). In the same year, Cheung launched her singing career with her first Cantopop album Any Weather (1999).

For Derek Yee’s romantic drama Lost in Time (2003), Cheung won Best Actress at the Hong Kong Film Awards. She played a young woman who lost her fiancé to a traffic accident which left her as a grieving single mother struggling to make ends meet.

Personal life

Cheung has been linked to Hong Kong singer and actor, Edison Chen, and also dated Hong Kong pop singer/actor Daniel Chan. She then dated Nicholas Tse in early 2002, but was then dumped by Tse late that year when Tse got back with his ex-girlfriend, singer Faye Wong. Later she was rumored to have dated a younger Lu Siyuan before the relationship ended in 2003. Cheung suffered serious depression and eating disorder after the break up.

Cheung and Tse were first reported to be “getting back together” in early 2006 and on July 31, 2006, Tse officially admitted dating Cheung in an interview with Commercial Radio Hong Kong 881/903.

On August 2, 2007, it was reported that Cecilia Cheung and her husband were both in the maternity ward awaiting for their child to be born. However no specific photo was enclosed with such report. The very next day, Cecilia gave birth to a 6.5 lb baby boy named Lucas.

Crystal Liu Yifei (born 25 August 1987 in Wuhan, China) is a Chinese actress and singer. Although she is often credited as Liu Yi Fei (Traditional Chinese: 劉亦菲; Simplified Chinese: 刘亦菲), her legal name is Liu Xi Mei Zi (Traditional Chinese: 劉茜美子; Simplified Chinese: 刘茜美子: 茜 Xi is from German movie “Sissi” (Chinese translation 茜茜公主—hence the pronunciation of xi not qian; her mother calls her Xixi). At the age of 15, Liu Yifei’s role as “Wang Yuyan” in the television serial, Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils propelled her to fame in China.

Biography
Born at Tongji hospital in Wuhan, China on August 25, 1987, Liu’s birthname was An Feng (Traditional Chinese: 安風; Simplified Chinese: 安风). Her father was a university professor while her mother was a dancer and a stage performer. They divorced when she was 7 years old. After her parents’ divorce, Liu lived with her mother, Liu Xiao Li (Traditional Chinese: 劉曉莉; Simplified Chinese: 刘晓莉) and her name was changed to Liu Xi Mei Zi. She began modelling at the age of 8 and was trained in singing, dancing and the piano. Moving to the United States in 1998 with her mother, Liu lived there for four years. She returned to China in June 2002 to pursue an acting career and adopted her stage name Liu Yi Fei. In September 2002, she was accepted into the Performance Institute of Beijing Film Academy at the age of 15, She graduated from the Beijing Film Academy in July 2006.

Career

Liu as “Xiaolongnü” in The Return of the Condor Heroes (2006).Immediately following her admittance into Beijing Film Academy, Liu received offers to star in various television drama serials. Her first role on television was in The Story of a Noble Family. Shortly after, she was chosen to portray the role of “Wang Yuyan” in Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils, a drama based on the same-titled novel by the acclaimed wuxia writer, Jinyong. It was this role that established her fame in China. Her fame was further enhanced through her starring role in the 2004 drama series adaptation of the video game, The Legend of Sword and Fairy.

In 2006, Liu starred in another television production based on a book by Jinyong, The Return of the Condor Heroes. After intense speculation on who would get the role of “Xiaolongnü”, the part was finally offered to her. She was backed by Jinyong, who felt that she had all the necessary qualities to play the role of the young and innocent “Xiaolongnü”.Although the drama serials she has acted in were well-received, the movies she starred in, did poorly in terms of box office takings. The TV drama serials are based on very popular novels, so their popularity is due to the novels themselves.

In conjunction with her acting career, Liu obtained a recording contract with Sony Music Entertainment Japan in August 2005 and has studied singing and dancing in Japan since then. She released her first single “Mayonaka no Door” with Sony Music on July 19, 2006.
