Media Ban

In early March 2008 it was reported that some of Tang Wei’s commercial sponsors had dropped her television and print ads due to her performance in the movie Lust, Caution. This included Tang Wei’s forthcoming TV commercials (for skincare among other things).

She was set to star in Tian Zhuangzhuang’s big budget period film The Warrior and the Wolf, but due to the Chinese media ban she was replaced by actress Maggie Q. In October 2008, the Hong Kong immigration authority approved her application under Quality Migrant Admission Scheme, thus becoming a resident of Hong Kong. This creates more opportunities and broaden her career in the media industry. She also has ambitions for the United States and Hollywood as well.

Biography

She is the granddaughter of Mr. Lai Man-Wai, who was a key figure of the first generation filmmakers, and has been referred to as “Father of Hong Kong Cinema”. Gigi’s father was born deaf and when her family went bankrupt, she entered the entertainment industry at the age of 14 to earn money to support the whole family.

Gigi is very well known for her beautiful image and her love of beauty, the Hong Kong media has given her the nickname “Goddess of Beauty” (愛美神). In the past, Gigi would turn down roles if they affected her appearance on screen. However, later in her career, Gigi had overcome her self-claimed “superficial and childish image” and began to embrace many critically acclaimed roles. She has since won a Best Actress award.

After entering the entertainment industry, Gigi first started out as a singer, she released many albums during the 1990s, in both Cantonese and Mandarin. Gigi has made several box office hits, especially for her role as the innocent and stuttering “Smartie” in the popular Young and Dangerous movie series.

She won the TVB’s Most Popular Actress Award in 2004 defeating the hot favourite Sheren Tang. She portrayed a scheming and conniving concubine in the hit series “War and Beauty”. Gigi has since become very popular with fans from Hong Kong and mainland China and many overseas countries.

At the premiere event of The Gem of Life, Gigi made a surprise announcement that she will be retiring from showbiz so that she can concentrate on looking after her brother’s business after he was seriously injured in a car accident in 2007

History

Korean debut

The Wonder Girls debuted on February 10, 2007 on Show! Music Core, singing “Irony”, the hip-hop single from their debut mini-album, The Wonder Begins. The mini-album went on to become a minor hit, selling 11,454 copies in 2007.

Throughout the rest of 2007, however, the Wonder Girls were beset by various injuries and health problems. On June 25, Sohee was sidelined for a month after tearing a knee ligament falling off a motorcycle during the filming of 뜨거운 것이 좋아 (I Like It Hot). The remaining four members continued performing until late July, when Hyuna was removed from the group due to their concern over her health—in particular, chronic gastroenteritis which had her hospitalized briefly in March and April.

Rise to popularity

On September 5, 2007, Good Entertainment, the talent agency for the popular boy band Shinhwa, sent their trainee Yoo bin to JYP Entertainment as a replacement for Hyuna. She made her debut three days later in the group’s live performance of “Tell Me” on Music Bank .

Their first full-length album, The Wonder Years, was released the following week, on September 13, 2007, with “Tell Me.” Due to the last-minute addition of Yubin, the album version does not contain her part. However, the performance version of the song was reworked to include a bridge with Yubin’s rap. The single was a hit and reached number one on various Korean television and internet music charts, including KBS’s Music Bank.

The choreography for the song was simple and widely imitated: by October, many fan performances of the dance circulated on video sharing sites such as YouTube and Daum, including one by a group of policemen who were eventually profiled on SBS’s Star King. The dance became so popular it was known as the ‘Tell Me Virus’ and earned them the title of ‘Korea’s Little Sisters’.

Wonder Girls had an extensive promotional schedule for their album and in December 2007 they began performing the second single from the album, “이 바보” (”This Fool”). They made numerous appearances on variety and game shows, sang live on radio, at music festivals, on music shows, and in special joint performances with other groups such as Big Bang. MTV has also aired three seasons of The Wonder Life, a reality TV series starring the girls. In January 2008, however, they ceased promotion of their album to prepare for their concert in United States that was scheduled for March 2008.

Asuka Hinoi (樋井明日香 Hinoi Asuka, born January 8, 1991) is a Japanese singer and leader of the J-Pop group Hinoi Team

Biography

Asuka’s musical career began in 2002 when she was chosen with two other girls, Hikaru Koyama and Miho Hiroshige to form the group LOVE & PEACE. Their song, Drifter became the theme for the movie ‘Dodge Go! Go! and the three girls even had minor roles in the movie. LOVE & PEACE, however, only released that one single.

In 2003, Asuka and Hikaru, along with Yuho Fujiwara, attempted to create a group again under Vison Factory’s management. The girls were models for mezzopiano and nicola, but their debut never occurred.

Later in 2003, Tomoko Kawase, better known as Tommy february6, had seen potential in Asuka and had produced her first solo single, ♥Wanna be your girlfriend♥, under the Sonic Groove label, a sub-label of avex trax. The song was used as the ending theme for the drama Ashita Tenki ni Naare. The single only had made it to position 60 on the Oricon charts, but did give Asuka much needed exposure. Five months later, her second single Tatta Hitori no Kimi (たったひとりの君, You as Only One Person?), was written by the famous songwriter behind SPEED, Hiromasa Ijichi. Her second single had given her much more exposure as she performed on musical shows like Music Station, Pop Jam, and HEY!HEY!HEY!. This single did not do as well as her first on the charts, as it only reached position number 79 on the Oricon charts.

On December 4th, 2004 it was announced that Asuka would be leader of a group called Hinoi Team. Auditions had been held at the dance and vocal school, Caless, where Asuka and Hikaru had previously studied singing and dance. Originally the other members consisted of Hikaru, Keika Matsuoka, and Mizuki Inoue, but it was decided that Rina Takenaka would be in the group instead of Mizuki.

Hinoi Team’s debut was set for February 5, 2005, but ended up being pushed back until May 18. Their first single, IKE IKE, was the start of Hinoi Team’s rising popularity.

The group continued to release singles through 2007, two of which, NIGHT OF FIRE and STICKY TRICKY & BANG, featured comedian/wrestler Koriki Choshu. After the release of the Hinoi Team’s sixth single, Dancin’ & Dreamin’, it appears that the group is no longer together, as there has been no group work for almost a year.

In the spring of 2007, Asuka released a new solo single, Asu e no Hikari (明日への光, Light toward Tomorrow?). The title track was the ending theme for the anime Seto no Hanayome (瀬戸の花嫁, A Bride in Seto?). She has not released any singles since then, but has continued to model for some fashion magazines. However, she contributed a song, Suiren (睡蓮, Water Lily?), to the compilation album FLOWER FESTIVAL～VISION FACTORY presents, released in March 2008.
